Todd Cantwell caught up in bizarre transfer gaffe as Rangers star 'offered' to Lecce but message sent to WRONG person

Todd Cantwell was reportedly offered to Italian side Lecce by former Liverpool star turned agent Jose Enrique with the move shared online after the Spaniard sent the message to the WRONG person.

The bizarre series of events were reported by the website Football Italia who say Enrique intended to try and punt Cantwell to the Serie A side but instead of contacting Lecce coach Luca Gotti, he actually sent the message to an Instagram fan page dedicated to the Italian tactician, called ‘Luca Gotti reacts.’

Norway international Marcus Pedersen was also caught up in the bizarre mix-up with the Feyenoord man, on loan at Sassuolo last season, also 'offered'. Enrique sent the players’ Transfermarkt pages to the Lecce coach, saying they could be of interest. Gotti guided Lecce to Serie A safety last season and was rewarded with a new contract at the Stadio Via Del Mare until June 2026.

It has been claimed Rangers will listen to offers for Cantwell this summer. He was previous manager Michael Beale's first new signing in January 2023, but hasn't enjoyed the same trust from Philippe Clement and found himself in and out of the team, while cryptic social media posts have led fans to speculate that the former Norwich City star could be about to me shipped out.

He was involved in a social media spat with a fan last week, branding the punter "a weapon" after he took exception to him posting a highlights reel of last season which ended in disappointment.
