Tom Hiddleston finally confirms engagement to British actress Zawe Ashton

Tom Hiddleston has finally confirmed his engagement to actress Zawe Ashton following months of speculation.

The 41-year-old actor and Ashton struck up their romance shortly after meeting in the West End revival of Harold Pinter’s Betrayal in 2019.

Hiddleston confirmed they are set to wed in a recent chat with The Los Angeles Times.

When congratulated on the engagement, he told the publication, "I'm very happy" before swiftly shifting the conversation back to his film work.

Whispers of an engagement began in March when Ashton, 37, was seen wearing a large diamond ring on her left hand – first seen in a photo posted to presenter AJ Odudu’s Instagram account.

Neither Hiddleston or Ashton commented at the time.

The pair first confirmed they were dating on their holiday in Ibiza last September where they were spotted kissing.

Weeks later, they made their red carpet debut together at the Tony Awards in New York.

Last year, they moved in together and are believed to be living in Atlanta, Georgia.

Hiddleston is reported to have tried to keep the details of his romance out of the spotlight following high-profile romances with exes.

The star, who dated actress Susannah Fielding from 2008 to 2011, became a source of regular gossip when he stepped out with pop star Taylor Swift in 2016.

Following the split, he told GQ in 2017 that his brief relationship with Swift was “of course... real,” adding, “She’s generous and kind and lovely, and we had the best time.”

Hiddleston noted, however, that it was difficult to have a “regular” relationship with Swift, who is now dating English actor Joe Alwyn.

“I only know the woman I met,” he said at the time. “A relationship always takes work. A relationship in the limelight takes work.”
