In a PEOPLE exclusive clip for the Disney+ show's newest episode, airing Thursday, Tom Hiddleston's Loki time-slips around the Time Variance Authority's barren headquarters

As Loki races towards the end of its second season, the Disney+ show isn't afraid to leave a slew of questions unanswered — as well as the future of its characters uncertain.

In PEOPLE's exclusive look at the Disney+ show's latest episode, premiering Thursday, Loki (Tom Hiddleston) time-slips around the Time Variance Authority's (TVA) empty headquarters. The building's "failsafe" mode has kicked in, a detached female voice warns.

Our embattled hero walks around and slowly glances at the empty desks, lamps flickering. He picks up a book and begins leafing through its pages when another version of himself time-slips into the same room and utters "Hello?" before vanishing.

"Hello?" Loki asks the now-empty room.

The show's newest episode picks up after a bombastic ending in episode 4. In an attempt to fix the Temporal Loom, which was on the brink of destruction, Victor Timely (Jonathan Majors) decided he should be the one to don the suit Mobius (Owen Wilson) wore in episode 1 because he knew how the "Throughput Multiplier" worked.

"Time to be brave," he said to Loki and Ouroboros (Ke Huy Quan).

But when Victor emerged onto the platform, he was instantly spaghettified by temporal radiation. Loki and the team, realizing their last hope was gone, looked on as the Temporal Loom exploded, appearing to engulf Loki before the screen went black and the credits rolled.
