Tommy Robinson to face fresh contempt of court hearing

Far-right campaigner Tommy Robinson will face another contempt of court hearing at the Old Bailey in London next week.

Robinson - whose real name is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon - was not present in court for a 30-second procedural hearing on Tuesday.

Judge Nicholas Hilliard QC said: "This is just to indicate that I'm not referring the matter of possible contempt of court by Mr Yaxley-Lennon to the attorney general for him to consider whether or not to institute proceedings.

"I will hear the matter myself on 23 October as ordered by the Court of Appeal."

A hearing last month over the matter drew crowds of his supporters to the streets outside the Old Bailey, but there was no repeat this time.

The 35-year-old founder of the English Defence League was freed from prison on bail in August after his contempt of court charge was quashed.

He had been jailed for filming outside a criminal trial in Leeds in May and putting the video on Facebook - despite the case being under strict reporting restrictions.

However, appeal judges later ruled that criminal proceedings against him had started too soon and that "the process was flawed".

But Robinson could face another jail sentence if the new hearing - for the same offence - again finds him guilty of contempt.
