Panama defender linked

Cardiff are one of a number of clubs supposedly interested in Panama centre-back Edgardo Fariña.

Burnley, Watford as well as Dutch side Feyenoord have been included among the chasing pack, according to Football Insider, after he played a big role in helping Panama reach the quarter-finals of the Copa America.

The Independiente defender garnered praise for his performances against the likes of Darwin Nunez, as well as his display against the USA, a game which saw Panama knock the hosts out of the competition.

The 6ft 4ins centre back made 27 appearances for his loan club Municipal in Guatemala last season and helped them win the league. He also had a loan stint with Universitario in Panama the season before.

While Cardiff are indeed in the market for a defender, club sources have downplayed links to Fariña.

Club ramp up transfer activity

Cardiff are, however, starting to escalate their transfer activity behind the scenes and are understood to be in discussions with a number of targets in a bid to get them to the Welsh capital.

The Bluebirds want to add in a number of areas of the squad this summer, with manager Erol Bulut having met with the club's hierarchy a fortnight ago to discuss the primary transfer targets for this window.

It is understood that talks with as many as three prospective targets are progressing positively and we could even see movement as early as next week, with players in defence, midfield and attack all being spoken to.

Cardiff undoubtedly need an out-and-out No.9 to add goals next season, while a winger is understood to be desirable, too. A commanding midfielder is also wanted, while the club need defensive reinforcements after Nat Phillips returned to Liverpool following his loan spell.

Should all go according to plan, we could start to see deals finalised next week, however, summers which include international tournaments such as the Euros and Copa America often see unexpected delays.

South Wales derby moved

The South Wales derby has already been moved as part of Sky Sports' Championship TV selections for August.

The first derby of the campaign will now take place on Sunday, August 25 at the Swansea.com Stadium, with kick-off at 3pm. Sign up to our Cardiff City newsletter here.

Another of Cardiff's summer fixtures has also changed time, too, with the Bluebirds welcoming Middlesbrough on Saturday, August 31. However, the kick-off time has been brought forward to 12.30pm instead of 3pm.
