Harris: Oxford move a good choice

Former Cardiff striker Mark Harris says he's enjoying his football at Oxford United and says it was the right decision to join the League One club.

The Wales forward left the Bluebirds last summer when his contract expired and fresh terms could not be agreed. He has been a revelation in the tier below, helping The U's to the play-offs where they hold a one-goal advantage over Peterborough United after their 1-0 win in the first leg over the weekend.

Harris has bagged 19 goals so far this term and we'll be hoping to propel his new team back to the Championship to face his former club Cardiff next season. He hopes his form will have grabbed the attention of Rob Page too, having not featured for Wales since the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

"It was quite tough, you know, not being in the last few squads," Harris told BBC Radio Wales Sport before the first leg.

"It was a good choice overall," he added, of joining Oxford.

"I've scored 19 goals and popped up with a few assists as well... I'm happy I chose to make the move here."

Harris' side face the Posh in the second leg of the League One play-off semi-finals tomorrow night.

He has garnered the praise of head coach Des Buckingham too. Speaking earlier this month of Harris, he said: “Mark’s worked extremely hard. When I came in here, he’d only scored a few goals and a lot of movement was done outside the box.

“We spent a bit of time with him, and worked on the areas we want him to operate in. He’s reaping the rewards of that.

“He’s got good players around him, that are providing some really good moments for him to up his goal tally. He’s got his own goal tally in mind, and he’s got another two games to get there and better that.

“The majority of that has come down to how he’s applied himself over the last six, seven, eight months.”

Kortrijk have lifeline

Vincent Tan's other side Kortrijk have been handed a lifeline in the Belgian Pro League.

It's been a poor season for Isaak Davies' loan club, who have been involved in a relegation battle virtually right from the off this term.

Freyr Alexandersson's appointment has seen them muster some resilience.

After their 1-0 win over Eupen last weekend, next up they have to match or better RWDM’s result to give themselves the second shot at survival. If they were to do that, they would face Lommel or Deinze of the Challenger Pro League for the chance to stay in the top flight.

Women seal the treble

Cardiff City Women won the Bute Energy Welsh Cup at the weekend, beating Wrexham at Rodney Parade to seal the domestic treble for the first time in the club's history.

Goals from Rhianne Oakley and Emma Beynon gave the Bluebirds a 2-0 win and the cup, to add to their league and Adran Trophy triumphs.

Cardiff City manager Iain Darbyshire told BBC Sport Wales: “We set out to win everything this season.

“The girls had to dig deep there, Wrexham are really good, I’ve got a lot of praise for them, they caused us a lot of problems.

"It’s hard to put into words, this is our goal and where we want to be, this squad is special, we deserve it and we’ve earned it, treble winners what more can you do?"

Speaking of Beynon's strike, he added: “She does it all the time in training.

"Emma is unbelievable, she works her socks off every week and we’re so grateful to have her."
