Tony Blackburn has said that he was left bloodied and bruised after a violent mugging involving three people.

The veteran radio broadcaster spoke about the incident after Good Morning Britain host Susanna Reid revealed that thieves stole her handbag using a knife.

On yesterday’s show, Reid told how she instinctively ran after her assailant, but when viewers praised her bravery, she cautioned against others doing it.

Blackburn then offered his experience.

“Very true, you do act on instinct,” he tweeted. “I was also mugged about three years ago in London, I was attacked by three people, knocked to the ground, kicked in the head, blood was everywhere and I fought back and they didn’t get my phone.

“It’s a horrible thing to happen.”

Reid called her own actions ‘dangerous’.

“I got mugged once by a guy with knife, my instinct was to run after him – it’s not rational and it’s dangerous,” she said.

“He slashed my bag off me and cut through my coat. ‘I was incandescent. I was furious. I followed him up over the bridge and he was shaking out my bag on the top of the bridge and then he just ran off.”

She added that although she was called in for a police line-up to try and identify the mugger, they were never caught.
