Few kids would turn down a visit to an inflatable park, especially one on water.

So you can imagine how excited my son and his friends were to be the first to try out the new Wild Shore Blackpool site over May half term.

It's opened at the former Blackpool Wake Park, which closed in 2022, and offers a range of activities on the lake, which sits just outside Blackpool at Ream Hills Holiday Park in Weeton.

There's wakeboarding, open water swimming and stand up paddleboarding, but what my trio were most looking forward to was the aqua park - 'a giant floating playground of adventure' with Ninja Warrior-style features including Tire Run, Ninja-Jump and Eagles Nest.

The fact that it was an overcast day and the water a little chilly didn't seem to bother them and once inside the wetsuits they were given for the activity they were raring to go.

You can make your way around the various obstacles whichever way you want and they had plenty of room to slip and slide their way along the inflatables - obviously falling and jumping off along the way and using the handles on the side of them to pull themselves back up.

They didn't stop for the entire 50-minute session so were pretty exhausted once they'd finished.

But we had one more activity booked in the form of Ringo, where the three of them could be pulled along the water while lying aboard a big round inflatable.

The instructor in charge of the Ringo was great with them, encouraging them to try different tricks along the way, like swapping places while it was moving but trying not to fall off.

At 15 minutes it's a relatively short session, but it was long enough and they seemed to enjoy being bumped along the waves, laughing at the one who ended up tumbling into the lake.

After all that action the kids were ravenous, but thankfully there's a Fins Cafe Bar on site selling a range of drinks and snacks.

For younger children you can choose from the Little Fins options of crispy chicken wrap, hot dog, fish finger butty or pizza for £4.50.

With bigger appetites my lot went for the adult crispy chicken wrap, which comes with crisps and coleslaw, for £6.95.

It sells sweet stuff too including waffles and cakes and there's a separate window outside for customers to order Lancashire's own Wallings ice creams and milkshakes.

Wild Shore Blackpool might have only just opened, but it's already making a splash and if the kids can have this much fun on a cold and drizzly Wednesday then it gets the thumbs up from us. It will make a perfect day out if you're looking for somewhere to take the family this summer.

Aqua park sessions can be booked individually, or as family or group trips, with the option to hire it for birthday parties. Tickets cost £22 each.

Children from the age of six, with a minimum height of 1.1m, can give it a go, although under eights need to be accompanied by an adult. One adult can supervise up to three children. Ringo costs £30 for groups of up to nine, who can take it in turns. Again, the minimum age is six. To find out more about Wild Shore Blackpool, or to book, visit the website here.

Its sister site Wild Shore Delamere, in Cheshire, now has all of its activities open for the new season. As well as an aqua park, paddleboarding and wakeboarding, it's also home to the Aqua Chimp floating obstacle course, featuring everything from zip wires and rope swings to climbing walls and rope bridges. For Delamere, see the website here.
