I took over at Leeds United and the club were in disarray - it was a financial mess

Jesse Marsch has taken a fresh swipe at former Leeds United owner Andrea Radrizzani, branding the club a "mess" before and after he arrived at Elland Road. The American was sacked by the Whites in February 2023 after recording just two wins from his final 17 matches in charge.

Their results failed to pick up following Marsch's departure and the club were relegated from the Premier League. Marsch, who signed 10 first team players across two transfer windows, told CBS Sports Golazo: “It’s almost like the higher that I went the more disappointed I was, in the way that things operated. People think Leeds is such a big club but if you peel the veil away, we were a club that was in disarray when I got there.

“It was financially a mess and it made then managing everything very difficult. But I decided to take that on and I tried to do the best I could with it. It was a mess before I got there and shortly after I left it was a mess again.”

Marsch was recently named as Canada's new coach. The 50-year-old, who won two caps for the United States as a player, has taken over from Mauro Biello.

"The combination of the new leadership inside of Canada Soccer coupled with the potential of this dynamic player pool has inspired me," Marsch said. "I am ready and eager to take on this massive responsibility. My excitement and anticipation to get started are immense."

His major assignment will be the Copa America, which gets under way in the United States next month. Canada face defending champions Argentina in their tournament opener.
