‘Top Gear’ Presenter Freddie Flintoff Pictured For First Time Since Crash During Filming Of BBC Series

Former England cricket captain Andrew “Freddie” Flintoff has been pictured for the first time since he was injured in a car accident during filming of the BBC series Top Gear.

The all-rounder and star of the England Ashes series in 2005 and 2009 was seen on Friday taking part in practice drills with the England cricket team at Cardiff, Wales. It is understood he was not there in an official capacity but invited to spend time with the team during its one-day international match against New Zealand.

Flintoff, who has been a presenter with the Top Gear team since 2019, was injured in December last year during the filming of a segment for the series at the Dunsfold Park Aerodrome in Surrey, southern England. His injuries remain visible on his face, and he is also understood to have broken ribs in the accident.

The hit show was mid-production for its 34th series, but filming was suspended following Flintoff’s accident, and a health and safety review is ongoing.

A fortnight ago, the BBC confirmed production is on hold of the show, which became one of the BBC’s most successful exports in its previous incarnation, hosted by Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May. That trio went on to present The Grand Tour on Amazon.

He was seen with the England team during their one-day international with New Zealand at Cardiff on Friday.

The BBC reports England captain Jos Buttler saying it was “great” to have Flintoff around his squad.

“He’s obviously an England legend and it’s just nice to have him around the group,” Buttler said.

“He’s not been brought in with any specific role, just to be around and observe.

“A few of the lads can pick his brains a little bit and he’s settled in really well. It’s great to have him with us. Just for this series.”

Flintoff was the England cricket captain 2006 to 2007. He moved into TV presenting after retiring from the sport and joined Top Gear as a host alongside Paddy McGuinness and Chris Harris.
