Staff at Altrincham Grammar School for Boys called in police following a 'threatening and aggressive' anonymous email. Greater Manchester Police was called about the message on Tuesday, prompting headmaster Graeme Wright to alert parents.

The selective grammar school, which has more than 1,300 pupils aged between 11 and 18 on its roll, has not revealed the nature of the threat but GMP says there is 'no risk to the school or wider community'.

The school regular appears towards the top of education and exam league tables and was judged 'outstanding' across the board by Ofsted in September 2022.

In an email to parents on Thursday, headmaster Graeme Wright said: "I am writing to inform you that earlier this week the school received an anonymous email of a threatening and aggressive nature. I informed the Greater Manchester Police (GMP) immediately and they are continuing to investigate the incident.

"I would like to reassure you that GMP do not believe that there is a real and present threat to members of the AGSB community. Please be aware that at this moment in time, we cannot be specific about the nature of this threat."

The Manchester Evening Contacted the school on Friday morning and Mr Wright told us: "I can confirm earlier this week the school received a threatening email. We took decisive action working alongside Greater Manchester Police who responded extremely quickly and we have followed their advice."

A spokesman for GMP said: "On Monday 30 April, officers received a report of a threat sent to a school in Altrincham. Following their initial enquiries, officers determined that there was no risk to the school or wider community."
