Torrential rain creates 'massive river' outside historic North Wales pub

Torrential rain created "a massive river" outside a historic North Wales pub, leaving staff facing a big clean-up operation. We Three Loggerheads, near Mold, was hit by a deluge of rain water on Sunday.

The downpour, which lasted from around 6pm until 9.30pm, flooded the main entrance and vents of the restored 17th-century coaching inn. The outdoor beer garden, hut area, and car park were also affected, reports Wales Online.

The fine weather over the weekend was abruptly ended by thunderstorms, with heavy rain continuing into Monday. More unsettled weather is likely this week.

Callum Norman, the pub supervisor, said: "The torrential rain has just flooded the area out, it created a massive river. We're all working hard to get everything cleaned up in time for the weekend. It has come through the main entrance and via the vents, having started from around 6pm until 9.30pm.

"We managed to unlock all the drains and got the water away down the drains. Thankfully, it is not too bad, but there's just a lot of cleaning. There's been no damage caused at all which is something. We're...looking to re-open on Thursday."

The Met Office forecast for Wales on Tuesday, May 14 reads: "Heavy rain clearing the northeast, leaving a drier day with some sunshine. However, a risk of showers developing, especially in the south, which may be on the heavy side. Lighter winds, and feeling pleasant in the sunshine. Maximum temperature 19C."
