‘Total shock’ after Swansea man found dead in overseas hotel room
The family and friends of a Swansea man found dead in his hotel room in Thailand have made a plea for help to bring him back home. Simon Brown, who was 47 and known affectionately as Browny, was found in his hotel room while on holiday in Thailand on Saturday, May 11.
Described by friends as “supremely popular”, Simon’s sudden and unexpected death has been met with “total shock and sadness” in his community in Trallwn. Simon’s friend Mark Davies said: “It’s just a total shock, it was so unexpected. He wasn’t ill."
Mr Davies added: "There was nothing wrong with him. Everyone knew him. He was a crazy bloke - really outgoing and always up for a laugh.

"He was a really hard worker as a machine operator and when he wasn’t working he was always on holiday. In particular he loved going to Thailand. We don’t know anything at the moment as to the circumstances around it. It only happened on Saturday so we know very little.” You can get more story updates straight to your inbox by subscribing to our newsletters here.
Simon’s family is asking for help to raise money to bring him back to Wales, which they say is going to be a “costly process”. “We are asking all those who knew and loved Browny to help us bring him back home,” they said in a statement on a fundraising page where they are trying to raise £10,000. “As a family, we are now trying to bring Simon back home so that we can lay him to rest at his home at Swansea,” they said. “Thanks to all those who have reached out and sent messages of condolence, and we appreciate any help you can give.”
