A tourist who had gone missing was tragically discovered dead on the eastern Greek island of Samos on Saturday, according to local media reports. This incident is the latest in a series of unfortunate events involving tourists in the Greek islands.

In some cases, these individuals embarked on hikes under scorching hot temperatures, as reported by the Associated Press. Dr. Michael Mosley, a renowned British TV presenter and author, was found dead last Sunday on the island of Symi.

A post-mortem examination determined that he had passed away the previous Wednesday, shortly after embarking on a hike across challenging, rocky terrain. Like Symi, Samos is situated very close to the Turkish coast.

The body of a 74 year old Dutch tourist was discovered by a Fire Service drone, lying face down in a ravine approximately 300 meters (330 yards) from the location where he was last seen on Sunday, struggling to walk in the intense heat, reports the Manchester Evening News.

This heartbreaking discovery comes as authorities continue their search for four individuals who have been reported missing in recent days. On Friday, local media reported that two French tourists had gone missing on Sikinos, a relatively isolated Cyclades island in the Aegean Sea with fewer than 400 permanent residents. The two women, aged 73 and 64, had left their respective hotels to meet up.

A 70 year old American tourist was reported missing on Thursday on the small island of Mathraki in Greece's northwest extremity by his Greek-American friend. The last sighting of the tourist was on Tuesday at a café with two female tourists who have since left the island.

Mathraki, a heavily wooded island measuring just 3.9 square kilometres, has been hit by strong winds that have so far prevented police and fire services from reaching the island to conduct a search, according to media reports.

Meanwhile, on the island of Amorgos, authorities are still searching for a 59 year old tourist who has been missing since Tuesday after he went on a solo hike in extremely hot conditions. US media have identified the missing tourist as retired Los Angeles County Deputy Sheriff Albert Calibet from Hermosa Beach, California.

Amorgos, the easternmost of the Cyclades islands, is a rocky island spanning 122 square kilometres and home to fewer than 2,000 inhabitants. A couple of years ago, the island saw a record number of visitors, exceeding 100,000.

Some media outlets have highlighted the need to better inform tourists about the dangers of hiking in intense heat. Temperatures across Greece on Saturday were more than 10 degrees Celsius lower than on Thursday when they peaked at almost 45 C. However, temperatures are expected to rise again from Sunday, although not to heatwave levels.
