Tragedy as man's body pulled from water after huge search operation near Tees Barrage

A man's body was recovered from Tees Barrage on Tuesday night following a huge search operation.

Police attended the area following reports that a man in his 30s had entered the River Tees and had not resurfaced. Officers worked with Cleveland Fire Brigade and Tees River Rescue, to search the area in the hopes of locating the man.

Tragically, in a statement issued on Wednesday morning, the force confirmed the man's body has been found. Police said the man’s family have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.

Previously, a spokesperson for Tees River Rescue said they could not comment on the nature of the incident as it was a "police led search". Pictures from the scene show a cordon had been erected at the site with a police car in attendance.

The area had also been blocked off with cones and Tees River Rescue are at the scene.

A video from Tuesday evening, shows an ambulance at the scene, with its sirens going. The ambulance was spotted heading to the area at approximately 10.30pm last night.

The North East Ambulance Service confirmed: "We were called to an incident yesterday (June 25) at 5pm at Tees Barrage in Stockton. We dispatched two ambulance crews, one duty officer, one clinical team leader and four HART crews (Hazardous Area Response Team)."
