Tragic cause of Plymouth mum's death revealed at inquest

An inquest has been opened into the tragic death of a 38-year-old mother who suffered a fatal brain bleed after hitting her head on a hotel fireplace.

The hearing was held by area coroner Alison Longhorn at Exeter County Hall, now the main coroner's court for Devon, Plymouth and Torbay.

She said Kadie Louise Hunt was born in Plymouth and lived in Seaton Orchard, Sparkwell. She recorded her date of death as April 15 this year at Derriford Hospital. She was single and worked as a mortuary assistant.

Ms Longhorn went on to state during the hearing that Kadie had spent the evening with friends at Welbeck Manor Hotel in Sparkwell when she "suffered a fall."

The area coroner continued: "She did not require medical treatment at the time and later went home to her address nearby. In the morning, friends went to her home to check on Kadie and found her unresponsive and an ambulance was called.

"Paramedics attended and she was taken to Derriford Hospital but sadly her health deteriorated and she passed away."

Ms Longhorn said there were no suspicious circumstances and on the present evidence the medical cause of death was given as "traumatic intracerebral haemorrhage with traumatic subarachnoid haemorrhage" - a subtype of stroke with bleeding in the space that surrounds the brain.

Earlier this week PlymouthLive reported on how Kadie's mother, Shirley was doing everything she could to ease the trauma for Kadie's children, 13-year-old Caden and nine-year-old Poppy.

Shirley said: I want people to know how wonderful she was. She was loved by everybody, she had such a beautiful smile and she always helped everybody else."

Shirley said her daughter has been "selfless" even in death. She added: "That is her legacy - even now with the donation of her organs. I want people to know what lives my daughter has saved, by donating her organs - she’s a hero.

"She donated everything, skin included, and what she’s done is amazing. Within 12 hours they were operating on her and organs for donation were removed. The donor people were just amazing, they were so special."

Kadie's funeral will be a "celebration of her life" and anyone attending is encouraged to "wear bright colours". The service is taking place on May 15 at 11.45am at Sparkwell Church and "everyone is welcome to attend".

A spokesperson from the Welbeck Manor said: "Kadie was well known and liked by the whole team, we are deeply saddened by her passing, our thoughts are with her family and friends at this time.”
