Tributes flood in for Edinburgh Hibs local legend after his sad passing

Hibs has paid tribute to a former club groundsman and kit manager after his sad passing, with current and former players also taking to social media to pay their respects.

The club announced on Sunday that Tam McCourt, who started off as the groundsman at Easter Road, had died. Tam, a much loved figure in and around the club and Edinburgh, was remembered by dozens as tributes flooded in on social media.

Posting a picture of Tam in a room filled with Hibs memorabilia and the Scottish Cup trophy the side won in 2016, club officials wrote: "Everyone at Hibernian FC is devastated to hear of the passing of former groundsman and kit manager, Tam McCourt. Our thoughts go out to Tam’s friends and family. Rest in peace."

Former Hibees including John McGinn, Grant Holt and Dylan McGeouch were among those who paid tribute to Tam on social media, with former striker Holt saying Tam looked after him when he arrived at the Edinburgh Club.

He wrote: "So sad what a guy looked after me from the first day I arrived. Big smile and some terrible jokes he will be missed for sure."

Former Hibs captain John McGinn also shared the club's tribute on Instagram with a green love heart.

Filipe Morias, who spent two years at Hibs between 2007-2009 also commented on his former side's post - hailing him as a "great character around the club."

He said: "So sad to hear of this... Tam loved hibs and was loved back by all of the players. Such a great character around the club, funny and always willing to help others. My thoughts and prayers are with his wife Joyce and the rest of his family, friends and loved ones. RIP Tam."
