Tributes to Glasgow 'golden boy' stabbed to death aged 27 in horror assault

Tributes have been paid to a young man stabbed to death in Possil Park over the weekend as police continue their hunt for his attackers.

Named locally as Brian, the 27-year-old died at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital after being attacked on Saracen Street at around 5pm on Saturday, May 18.

A shopkeeper, who wanted to remain anonymous, told Glasgow Live: "There were about six or seven police cars and a couple of ambulances here on Saturday.

"I’ve seen Brian a few times as he used to come into the shop. Something bad happens on Saracen Street so many times but I've not seen anything as awful as this."

Now, floral tributes have been left at the scene of the tragedy. A large blue police tent has been erected, also, with police officers standing guard nearby.

One tribute reads: "Molly's golden boy Brian. Our heartfelt sorrow for you and your family. Much love to all of you."

Another person wrote: "A life too short. A greiving too long for a life lost for a young man of Possil Park. Never forgotten."

A third paid tribute: "To big Brian, we are all going to miss you brother. Until we meet again."

Alongside the flowers and sympathy messages, there is also a Rangers FC teddy bear near the scene where Brian was attacked.

Police say that two men are involved in the fatal incident and have launched an appeal to trace them.

The first suspect is described as white, in his 30s, wearing a light blue top and black shorts. The second suspect is white, also in his 30s and wearing a white top with black shorts and back trainers.

Detective Inspector Lesley-Ann McGee said: "It was a warm, sunny day yesterday and there were lots of people out enjoying the weather in Saracen, I am asking them to get in touch with us with any information that could assist us in establishing the motive for this attack.

"If you saw, heard or know anything please contact us. I’m also asking people with dash cam or doorbell recording equipment to check for any footage that could assist our investigation. A family is mourning the loss of a loved one and it’s imperative we are able to answer how their loved one died."

There will be additional officers in the area over the coming days and anyone with information or concerns can approach these officers.

Anyone with information is asked to call Police Scotland via 101, quoting incident number 2986 of 18 May 2024. Alternatively, you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
