Tributes Paid to Calais Migrants One Year After 27 Drowned Crossing Channel

Hundreds of people gathered in Dunkirk, France, on Thursday, November 24, to pay tribute to 27 migrants, one year after they died when their boat capsized in the English Channel.

Video by Onjali Rauf, founder of O’s Refugee Aid Team, shows a torch-lit procession.

Rauf said the night ended with a minute’s silence and flares lighting up the sky “to mark the desperation of those whose calls for help went unanswered”.
