Tributes paid following death of West End restaurant owner

TRIBUTES have been paid to the owner of two West End restaurants following his death. 

Hadi Seyed Tabatabaeyan, who was the owner of Meze Meze and Usta on Argyle Street, passed away "peacefully" at home on Tuesday, June 11 the restaurants announced on social media.

He was surrounded by family.

A post announcing the news on Instagram from the Finnieston eateries was captioned: "It is with deep regret that we announce the untimely passing of our boss, Mr Hadi Tabatabaeyan."

Fans of the restaurants flooded the comments with condolences.

Glasgownoms wrote: "Hadi was such a kind man and welcomed us so generously to the restaurant. Always a beaming smile on his face. So sorry to hear this thoughts and prayers are with your loved ones and family."

Another person said: "How very sad to read this. He was always so lovely and friendly when we ate in Meze Meze and USTA - may he rest in peace."

A third person commented: "He was a very great man with a great heart. Always did the best he could for me and family you will be truly missed."

A fourth added: "So sorry for your loss he was a genuine guy who looked after his customers he always found us a table even if he was fully booked never did he turn us away will miss seeing him in the restaurant in the future god bless the family."

Mr Tabatabaeyan opened Usta last year as a sister restaurant to neighbour Meze Meze.

He worked as a chef for around 37 years before his passing.

His funeral will be held on Tuesday, June 25.
