'I tried London's new all-you-can-eat crayfish boil and never knew American food could be so spicy'

If you don’t mind getting your hands dirty while enjoying delicious food, this immersive pop-up is for you! Crayfish Bob is bringing his renowned Louisiana Crawfish Boil to London for a limited time.

We were invited to preview the experience, and it's a feast not to be missed! Essentially, you get a bountiful supply of crayfish, Kielbasa (smoked sausage), potatoes, and corn-on-the-cob, all seasoned with Bob’s authentic crawfish boil spice mix.

While it’s not technically all-you-can-eat, it comes very close, as our group struggled to finish even one tray since the staff refilled it many times. My concerns about food waste were eased when I was told that leftovers are taken home by the staff.

The flavours of the boil are strong and delicious, though a bit too spicy for me (I never thought I would say American food was too spicy). The boil uses American Signal Crayfish, an invasive species that poses a threat native crayfish and other creatures in British waterways.

Crayfish Bob, who has been hosting these boils for over 20 years, partnered with Gosnells, an independent alcohol brand, to bring this experience to their bar in Bermondsey. Alongside the boil, you can try Gosnells’ unique hazy nectars, a honey-based drink similar to cider.

I tried their Raspberry and Hibiscus Nectar, and it was delicious and way smoother than a Strongbow Dark Fruits, though it has the same percentage of alcohol. The bar's décor, filled with crayfish-themed elements, and live music enhanced the Southern US culinary experience.

The event is sound tracked by The Crawdaddy’s, a lively zydeco band that transports you straight to Louisiana. Running every Thursday from 4th July to 10th October, the experience costs £54 per person, which you can purchase through EatWith. Given the amount of food and entertainment, I think it’s a great value, so don’t miss out!
