I tried McDonald's new menu and there's one thing that could improve it

I had one wish after trying out McDonald’s new menu.

McDonald's refreshed its food offering today, featuring brand new items and returning fan favourites. The Chicken Big Mac is back, which I was most intrigued by as I had never had the chance to try it before. Many fans have even claimed it is the "best burger ever".

There was also a new Quarter Pounder Deluxe and Cheese and Herb Melts. In terms of dessert options, there was the return Biscoff McFlurry and Chocolate McFlurry, alongside the Galaxy Caramel Pie. There is also the Biscoff Frappe, which I wasn't able to try out today. Here is my verdict on whether these items improve its standard menu.

The Cheese and Herb Melts have replaced the halloumi fries. Made from mozzarella and emmental cheese, they reminded me a lot of the mozzarella sticks.

The melts had less of a cheese pull than the sticks, but that doesn’t really bother me. Coming in a bag of five, these are a good substitute for having McNuggets with your meal, especially when you have the rich tomato dip with them.

This is a twist on McDonald’s usual Apple Pie, which I don’t have a strong opinion on. The Galaxy version was warm and had a good filling of delicious chocolate, but it wasn’t enough to make this my go-to dessert. The texture remained the same as the Apple Pie and I’d rather opt for a smoother McFlurry.

McFlurry's - Biscoff and Galaxy Chocolate

I reviewed the Biscoff McFlurry last year and was quite impressed. This time was no different. It’s a clever twist on other McFlurries, with small, crispy chunks of biscuit mixing well with the smooth ice cream.

The one thing that could make it better is more biscoff throughout, but it’s definitely a dessert I’d always opt for if it ever became a permanent option. The Galaxy Chocolate held no surprises either, and that was no bad thing. You can’t go wrong with chocolate bites mixed with ice cream.

Quarter Pounder Deluxe

The Double Quarter Pounder is my go-to order at McDonald’s so I was interested to see if this was an upgrade. The lettuce and juicy tomatoes were a welcome addition and made the burger taste slightly fresher. However, the normal quarter pounder is so good anyway that I don’t think I’d miss the deluxe if it disappeared from the menu.

I was delighted to finally try out the Chicken version of the Big Mac. I never normally opt for chicken burgers at McDonald’s, but this was really good. The crispy and tender chicken mixed so well with the usual Big Mac ingredients, especially the big Mac Sauce.

I’ve finally found an option that I would opt for over the beef burgers. Sadly, the Chicken Big Mac is often a temporary addition to the menu. The restaurant ran out of them within a week of their first launch in 2022, and it’s unclear whether it’ll either be a permanent fixture.

I hope one day it will be - maybe if it was added permanently, demand for them would naturally come down to a more reasonable level.

I’ve found my new favourite McDonald’s item. I just hope it’ll be here to stay.
