Forest Whitaker’s daughter True is remembering her mother, Keisha Nash, following her death on Thursday.

The 25-year-old penned a touching tribute alongside individual photos of her mother. “The funniest, brightest and most beautiful in the entire universe," she wrote on Instagram. "I love you mom and nothing will ever change that.”

“I already feel you in my heart, your power, your glow, your fierceness," True continued. "It’s going to be hard to navigate this world without you physically, although you’re now my most powerful angel, I know you’ll guide me through this life."

“I miss everything about you, I miss the laughter," True wrote. "Thank you for being you. Thank you for Everything.”

“My butterfly, my lady bug, my mom,” True concluded. “I love you 🖤.”

True confirmed her mother's death in an Instagram Story shared Thursday.

"goodbye mommy. I love you 4ever and beyond," True wrote in a caption over a black-and-white photo of her mother. "the most beautiful woman in the world... thank you for teaching me every single thing I know. I'll see you in my dreams and I'll feel you in my heart."

True also shared a photo of her mother with lyrics from soul singer Donny Hathaway's song "A Song for You" playing over the picture.

Nash’s death was confirmed by her family to Deadline. A cause of death was not immediately provided.

A representative for Forest Whitaker did not immediately respond to PEOPLE's request for comment Thursday.

Forest and Nash first met on the set of the 1994 film Blown Away after she was cast to play Whitaker’s character's girlfriend, per CBS News. Whitaker proposed the following year and the couple married in 1996 in Montego Bay, Jamaica. The former couple share two daughters, True and Sonnet Noel, 27.

In addition to True and Sonnet, Keisha has an older daughter named Autumn, 32, and Forest also has an older son named Ocean, 33, both from previous relationships.

Forest filed for divorce from Nash after 22 years of marriage in December 2018 and cited irreconcilable differences in his petition, according to documents obtained by PEOPLE at the time.
