Trump is a 'pathological liar,' says Bernie Sanders

Senator Bernie Sanders has commented that US President Donald Trump is a “pathological liar.”

The erstwhile presidential candidate was asked on MSNBC to sum up the first 12 months of Mr Trump’s term.

Mr Sanders joked: “Has it really only been one year? I thought it was about 16 years.”

He said that Mr Trump was an “embarrassment” to the country and that he lied on the campaign trail about what he would do while in office.

Mr Trump “ran on a populist campaign, ‘health care for everybody,’ he’s going to stand up to Wall Street, he’s going to stand up to the drug companies — he lied,” said Mr Sanders with frustration in his voice.

Mr Sanders commented that the US is no longer respected around the world as it had been under former President Barack Obama and previous administrations because of Mr Trump.

He said regard for the US is “down lower than it has ever been.”

Mr Sanders may be correct about that as a new Gallup Poll suggested median approval of US leadership was just 30 per cent, down from 48 per cent.

The previous historical low was 34 per cent during the administration of President George W Bush.

The perception of Mr Trump sharply declined compared to that of Mr Obama's in several countries that are considered US allies.

However, approval of US leadership actually increased in Russia and Israel.

The Gallup poll was based on asking questions of 1,000 random adults in 134 countries.
