Good evening. The global chief executive of Fujitsu has apologised for the first time over the firm’s role in the Horizon scandal. Elsewhere, Robert Jenrick has urged Rishi Sunak to accept amendments to the Rwanda Bill, with MPs due to vote later this evening.
Fujitsu boss apologises for Horizon scandal
Speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, Takahito Tokita told the BBC: “This is a big issue, which Fujitsu takes very seriously.” It comes after a Fujitsu executive today told MPs the firm’s role in the scandal was an “appalling miscarriage of justice”. Meanwhile Alan Bates has criticised the “madness” of the Post Office scandal compensation scheme.
Jenrick: Current version of Rwanda Bill ‘doesn’t work’
Former immigration minister Robert Jenrick said that the current version of the Rwanda Bill “doesn’t work” as he urged the Prime Minister to accept amendments to the legislation. MPs are due to vote on some of the amendments this evening before a second session of debate and further votes tomorrow afternoon.

Civil servants could be ordered to obey ministers over Rwanda flights
Downing Street is actively considering reminding officials of their obligations under the Civil Service code as it attempts to see off a rebellion over the Rwanda Bill. The idea was floated by Priti Patel, the former home secretary, who is urging colleagues to back the legislation being debated in the Commons this week.

World news: Iran attacks Israeli ‘spy HQ’ in Iraq
Iran says it destroyed an Israeli “spy headquarters” in a missile attack near the US consulate in the northern Iraqi city of Irbil. Ben & Jerry’s has called for a “permanent and immediate” ceasefire in Gaza, raising the prospect of renewed tensions with its owner Unilever.
