TUI flight from Midlands forced to land at Gatwick due to 'onboard emergency'

An 'emergency' was declared on board a TUI flight making its way to Spain from the Midlands. The plane was diverted to London Gatwick, where it landed around an hour after take-off.

The plane left East Midlands Airport in Nottingham at around 6.15am on Saturday, June 8. It was bound for Palma de Mallorca, the Mirror reports.

It had climbed to an altitude of 37,000ft before the crew declared an emergency as the plane reached the French coast. It was then diverted to London Gatwick, landing at around 7.15am.

The TUI flight, which had the callsign TOM9BP, has since continued to Spain. The plane left the airport after an hour and was due to reach its destination at 10.42am.

TUI has not yet shared any information about the emergency. The Mirror has contacted the airline for comment.
