EastEnders'Aunt Babe played by Annette Badland has been a long-time villain in the soap and her recent antics have riled up fans more than ever, as she landed herself, Mick and Shirley Carter in prison in Tuesday's episode.

However, it seems not everyone hates the conniving character, who had destructive formative years, as the actress explained while speaking to Metro.

"Oh, the things we'd all like to say but would never dare!" said the 66-year-old.

"Babe takes revenge where people usually wouldn't – someone bashes into your car and you rant that you would do this and do that but you never would. But Babe would!"

But it's not just the actress herself who's found love for the character. In fact some fans of the show have been driven to tears by her, but in a good way.

She revealed: "Lots of people tell me that I have made them cry in an episode, for example. We are all complicated and people all respond differently to individuals.

"She is very complex – and she could be different if she turned certain corners. Although I think that if someone ever did come along and show her love, she'd find that incredibly difficult. It would be a struggle – particularly with things like trust."

Badland explained that if she ever struggles to interpret the character, who sees herself as a mother figure to the two key Carters on the Square, she always comes back to her core desire to be loved along with the fact Babe never gets that attention, which she so desperately craves.

The actress felt Babe always has had good intentions, although she admitted her "methods aren't always the most legitimate!"

EastEnders continues tonight at 7.30pm on BBC One.
