TVLine Items: Kelsea Ballerini to Host CMT Music Awards, Supernatural Vet’s K-Drama Gig and More

Kelsea Ballerini is back at it as the solo host of the 2024 CMT Music Awards, airing live from Austin, Texas’ Moody Center on Sunday, April 7 at 8/7c on CBS and streaming on Paramount+. She will also perform during the ceremony.

The country singer previously emceed the awards show in 2021 and 2023 alongside Kane Brown, in addition to hosting remotely in 2022.

“I couldn’t be more excited to be back for my fourth year with my CMT family to host this year’s CMT Music Awards in Austin, Texas,” Ballerini said in a statement. “Hosting an awards show that celebrates the music that the fans love most has been an honor and I know this year will be another unforgettable night.”

* Supernatural alum Sebastian Roché will appear in Netflix’s Korean drama Queen of Tears (debuting March 9) as “a German doctor who has an interesting relationship with the two leads,” our sister site Deadline reports.

* In honor of its 10th anniversary, NBC will air a two-hour, best-of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon primetime special on Tuesday, May 14 at 9/8c.

* Prime Video has ordered to series Overcompensating, a college-set ensemble comedy about the wild, chaotic journey of Benny (played by writer and EP Benito Skinner), a closeted former football player and homecoming king, as he becomes fast friends with Carmen, a high school outsider on a mission to fit in at all costs. Charli XCX will produce original music for the series.

* Prime Video has given a series order to El Gato (working title), a bilingual drama series, starring Diego Boneta (Scream Queens), based on the comic book series El Gato Negro by Richard Dominguez. Boneta will play Frank Guerrero, “the black sheep of his family, who finds himself at the center of a vast conspiracy when he discovers his father was a ’70s vigilante, ‘El Gato.'”
