Two charged after alleged knifepoint robberies in park

Two people have been charged following an alleged knifepoint robbery in a park in Ramsbottom.

Earlier this week, police appealed to the public for help after two bikes were allegedly stolen in Nuttall Park at 5.50pm on Wednesday, June 19.

Now, two people aged under 18 have been arrested and were due to appear at court today, Friday, after being charged with two counts of robbery and two counts of attempted robbery.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: “On June 19, two robberies and two attempt[ed] robberies occurred in Nuttall Park in Ramsbottom.

“Two of the victims had their push bikes stolen during this incident and this was a particularly distressing ordeal for those involved.

“Bury’s Neighbourhood Crime Team investigated the matter and after an extensive CCTV trawl and effective partnership work with our neighbourhood colleagues, we identified two suspects who were arrested on June 27.

“We are pleased to say that two juveniles, who cannot be named for legal reasons, were subsequently charged with two robberies and two attempt[ed] robberies.

“They were both remanded into custody and are to appear at court on June 28.”

The news comes just days after Bury Police issued a warning about a spate of burglaries in the borough.

Officers have stepped up "high visibility patrols" during "peak times" as a result of the burglaries.

On Tuesday, a Bury police spokesperson said: "In recent weeks we have seen a spike in residential burglaries in the Redvales area of the Bury district.

"There will be increased high visibility patrols in the area during the peak times.

"Remember to be vigilant and keep your home secure."
