Two Dead in Fiery Ecuador Plane Crash

Two people died when a small aircraft crashed in a residential area of Guayaquil, Ecuador, on Tuesday, October 18, officials have confirmed.

Footage shot by Kike Gerzam in Guayaquil shows a fire burning at the crash site. A second clip shows fire crews at the scene extinguishing the blaze.

Guayaquil Mayor Cynthia Viteri told El Universo that she witnessed the crash as she was only two blocks away at the time. She said the pilot had successfully prevented further loss of life by weaving through the air looking for a less built-up place to crash land.

Ecuador’s General Directorate of Civil Aviation said three people had been on the plane at the time of the crash. Captain Edgar Rosero and Captain Juan Guzman both died in the accident, while Captain Cristian Armendariz was transferred to hospital. Credit: Kike Gerzam via Storyful
