Two hooded men shoot dead eight people - including six children - at Brazilian school

Eight people – including six students – have been shot and killed by two hooded men at a school in Brazil.

The shooting took place at the Raul Brasil State School in Suzano, Sao Paulo, at around 9:30am local time (12:30pm GMT).

Six children and two employees at the school were killed better the two men, who were carrying several weapons, took their own lives.

Governor Joao Doria said the two attackers were believed to be between 20 and 25 years old, adding that authorities do not believe they were former students.

Mr Doria said the dead included two teachers and six students, and several more people had been taken to hospital after sustaining injuries.

Some 1,000 primary and secondary students, aged between six and 18, attend the school but only secondary students were inside at the the time of the shooting.

Sao Paulo state governor João Doria said after visiting the school: “It’s a very sad scene, the saddest thing I’ve seen in my entire life. The teenagers were brutally murdered.”

Teacher Sandra Perez told O Estado de S.Paulo newspaper: ”I was in the classroom during our break.

“I thought [the sound] was from bombs. When I realised they were gunshots, I stayed there. I only left when the police arrived.”

Police say they found a revolver, a bow and arrow and items that appeared to be explosives inside.

Gun crime is extremely common in Brazil but school shootings are rare.

The last major school shooting in Brazil occurred in 2011, when 12 students in Rio de Janeiro were shot dead by a gunman.
