Two rushed to hospital after 999 crews called to crash near petrol station

Two people have been taken to hospital following a crash near a North East petrol station.

Emergency services were called to the A1052 Dairy Lane in Houghton-le-Spring, near the Chilton Moor Filling Station, on Tuesday after a collision around 11.50am.

Reports suggest two cars collided at the junction between Dairy Lane and Disraeli Street - with the North East Ambulance Service confirming it sent two ambulance crews and a clinical team leader to the scene.

It has now been confirmed that two people were taken to the Sunderland Royal Hospital following the incident, with their conditions both unknown.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “Shortly before 11.50am today (Tuesday) we received a report of a collision involving two cars on the A1052 Dairy Lane in Houghton-le-Spring, near to the junction with Disraeli Street.

“Emergency services are currently in attendance at the scene.”

A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called to reports of a road traffic collision on North View Terrace at 11.50am this morning (2 July).

"We dispatched two ambulance crews and a clinical team leader, and transported two patients to Sunderland Royal Hospital."
