Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury are on course to finally lock horns in 2021
(PA/Getty Images)Frank Warren is confident the double-header between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua will still go ahead next year, and predicts Fury would knock Joshua out within six rounds of their planned heavyweight world title unification fight.
The British duo have agreed a two-fight deal in 2021, with Wembley the front-runner to host one of the bouts if high five-figure crowds are allowed into the stadium amid the ongoing coronavirus uncertainty.
But with Fury’s December date now cancelled, his camp hinted he could fight in the US in February or March, casting doubt over the Joshua double.
The news regarding Covid-19 vaccines has helped pave the way for the possibility of that all-British fight in the capital. But both Fury and Joshua need to come through other bouts to pave the way for an event Warren believes will be the “biggest sporting event since England won the World Cup”.
And the 68-year-old says Fury is the stand-out favourite. Warren told Standard Sport: “I don’t see him losing to Joshua. You look at them and think who’s the better boxer? Tyson Fury. Who’s got the better jab? Tyson Fury. Who’s the better mover? Tyson Fury.
“Who’s got the better punch? Tyson showed in the last fight with [Deontay] Wilder what he’s capable of. I really think that if we get it on, I genuinely believe he will stop Joshua, and in the first half of the fight, too.”
The heavyweight duo have agreed a 50-50 purse split for what promises to be the richest fight in British boxing history.

Getty ImagesAs for London playing host, Warren said: “Both would love to have it in London. It should take place in London, and Wembley would be great for it. Covid might be the problem, so it depends what happens with that.
“This needs a crowd – this is the Olympic Games, the Euros of our sport all combined. I genuinely think it’s the biggest sporting event in England since England won the World Cup.”
