UAE clinch Twenty20 series to complete Canada tour

The United Arab Emirates ended their Canadian sojourn on a high after clinching the Twenty20 series against the hosts in Toronto on Sunday.

They won the second and last match of the tour by seven wickets to complete a 2-0 sweep of the Twenty20 series at the Toronto Cricket, Skating and Curling Club.

UAE had won the first match by 72 runs on Saturday.

The only period of dominance from Canada in Sunday’s game came during an 86-run stand between Raza-ur-Rehman (46) and Ashish Bagai (47), which came at over eight an over.

After their dismissal the rest managed just 42 as Canada got to 137 for 7 in their 20.

For UAE, off-spinner Nasir Aziz had the best figures – 3 for 21. The 27-year-old led the wicket-takers list in the series with five scalps.

In reply, the UAE batsmen all contributed cameos to take their team home comfortably, with eight balls to spare.

Opener Mohammad Azam extended his fine form by scoring 36 runs off 33 balls and featured in a 66-run stand with Swapnil Patil (36 off 29 balls) to set UAE on course.

Sunday’s win meant UAE had won both T20s and both World Cricket League Championship one-dayers, after having drawn the Intercontinental Cup four-day match.
