A new list of the top 100 boys' and girls' baby names for the whole of England and Wales has been released and Muhammad has jumped up the list in popularity.

Naming your child can be one of the most difficult decisions you can make in your lifetime due to the impact it can have on your child's entire life. The Office for National Statistics (ONS) has released its latest report today for the most popular baby names for both boys and girls across England and Wales in 2022.

Noah was the most popular boys' name in England and Wales for the second year in a row, while Muhammad has jumped from fifth place in last year's report to second this year.

Noah stole the number one spot from Oliver in last year's ONS report for 2021 as Oliver had been the most popular boys name for eight years in a row.

Noah has bagged the top spot for the second year in a row while Muhammad grabbed second place and George rounded off the top three. Oliver dropped to fourth and Leo made up fifth place in the most popular boys names for 2022.

Olivia has stayed champion at the top of the list for the seventh year in a row with Amelia and Isla taking second and third place. Ava and Lily made up the top five, with new entries for the top 100 girls including Ophelia, Ottilie, Eloise, Nova and Fatima.

Olivia was the top girls' name for every English region and Wales, except London where Amelia was the most popular girls' name. Muhammad was the most popular boys' name in four out of nine English regions as well.

James Tucker from the Office for National Statistics said: "Noah was the most popular name for boys in 2022, for the second year in a row, having replaced Oliver at the top in 2021. Oliver has now slipped to fourth most popular boys' name, behind Muhammad and George.

"Olivia remained the most popular girls' name in 2022, having held the top spot since 2016. In second and third place for the girls it's Amelia and Isla, both unchanged from 2021. Theodore, Theo and Freddie are three new entries into the top 10 boys' names in 2022. Isabella is the only new entry into the girls' top 10."

Read on below for the top 100 baby names for both boys and girls as according to the ONS's latest report for 2022.
