UK college facing health and safety prosecution after throwing Christmas party on the same day as the Downing Street bash

A covid-hit college accused of hosting Xmas parties on the same day as the infamous Downing Street bash is facing a possible health and safety prosecution, it emerged today. Burnley College in Lancs. - where one teacher died of Covid - has been investigated by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) for nearly a year since the event on Dec 18, 2020. The college is accused of hosting a number of small, faculty-based parties on the afternoon of Dec 18 which included an indoor karaoke session and alcohol. A video of one of the parties which was held during strict lockdown rules and a ban on Xmas gatherings has been examined by investigators. Stephanie Coleman, whose sister Donna, 42, worked at the college and died from Covid-19, condemned the college for supposedly allowing the parties. She said it was horrific that the government now stood accused of doing the same thing and urged HSE to launch an investigation into the Downing Street gatherings.
