UK coronavirus death toll jumps by 377 to 37,837

The number of people who have died in the UK after testing positive for coronavirus has risen by 377 overnight.

The Department for Health (DHSC) said 37,837 people had died in hospitals, care homes and the wider community after testing positive for Covid-19 as of 5pm on Wednesday – up from 37,460 the day before.

In the 24-hours up to 9am on Thursday, 119,587 tests were carried out or dispatched with 1,887 positive results.

The figure for the number of people tested has been “temporarily paused to ensure consistent reporting” across all methods of testing, the DHSC said.

In total, 3,918,079 tests have been carried out to date, with 269,127 confirmed positive.
