A further 48 people have died after testing positive for coronavirus in the UK, the lowest Friday increase since the start of lockdown.

The figures comes as coronavirus quarantine rules for people arriving from dozens of countries, including Spain, France and Italy, are relaxed.

But in England there are fears that the R number, which represents the number of people that an infected person will pass the disease along to, may have crept above one.

Boris Johnson is expected to face a grilling from the public as he hosts a "people's PMQs" later today.

Meanwhile, Gyms, spas, outdoor theatres and salons have been given the green light to reopen over the next two weeks. Gyms will have to abide by strict Covid-safe measures, including capacity limits, reduced class sizes, and improved ventilation.
