UK finally set for warmer weather within days as forecasters warn of 'super heatwave' later this summer

The UK is poised for a 'mega heatwave' as the weather takes a turn for the better, with forecast maps turning a fiery red. As we progress into June, the country is expected to experience significantly warmer temperatures.

By Thursday, June 20, areas including Greater London and Surrey are predicted to see temperatures soar to 25C, according to forecasters at InMeteo. The southeast, particularly London and Surrey, will enjoy some of the highest temperatures.

Supporting these predictions, James Madden from Exacta Weather noted that recent updates from main third-party computer models have lessened the likelihood of cooler, unsettled weather. He said: "The main third-party computer models have already 'downgraded' the scale of the very cool and unsettled weather going forward and during the past few days of model runs."

He added that the weather outlook is expected to improve further, potentially leading to an exceptionally hot July. "And we can expect further changes to these projections going forward and to pave the way for a very warm to exceptionally hot July with the high possibility of some sort of mega or super heatwave developing for an extended duration within this period."

Despite it being June, the anticipated warmer weather has yet to fully set in. Mr Madden emphasized that a significant heatwave could still occur mid-summer, reports Birmingham Live.

"Major heatwave or super heatwave still on target for mid-summer. Our earlier high-confidence forecast for a major heatwave or super heatwave is still on target to develop in or around mid-July for the UK and Ireland, and temperatures could still reach as high as the mid to high 30C mark at the peak of this."

"With the prospects of a potential super heatwave on the cards during this summer, we can take a look back at our correct several month and week ahead forecasts for summer 2018 (the equal hottest summer on record) and the exact timing of the heatwaves and a heatwave of 'epic proportions' on our part, in addition to calling 'the hottest summer ever' quite far in advance."
