What does a flood warning mean?

The Environment Agency issues three types of flood warnings - flood alert, flood warning and severe flood warning.

A flood alert warns people to be alert of floods in their area and to prepare, while a flood warning is issued when flooding is expected and there is a danger to life or widespread disruption is expected.

Severe flood warnings are the highest level of warning, and people are encouraged to follow advice from the emergency services and keep safe.
