UK households can get £145 Cost of Living payment on 'first come first served' basis

UK households can get £145 cash payments towards the Cost of Living crisis if they are in "financial need". UK households can benefit from the extension of the Household Support Fund with Windsor and Maidenhead Borough Council paying out a £145 payment to households in financial need.

The local authority explained: "The Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) has provided local government with the Household Support Fund for the period April 2024 – September 2024. The objective of the Fund is to provide support to vulnerable households in most need of support, to help with significantly rising living costs through two different schemes: a £145 payment made directly to residents and vouchers which are provided during the school holidays to children who would usually receive free school meals."

The local authority is working with a selection of delivery partners to allocate the Household Support Fund to residents. Residents will be given a Unique Reference Number by the partner and a link to an online application form, to enable them to apply for the £145 cash payment.

The Fund is allocated on a first come, first served basis. The local council added: "This is a discretionary fund, allocated on a case by case basis by the delivery partners, to mitigate financial hardship. To be eligible, applicants must be in financial need, resident in the borough and over 18. The council will review all applications."

It went on: "If you have previously received the Household Support Fund before April 2024, you may reapply by getting in touch with the partner who you originally contacted." The Household Support Fund was due to end in April 2024, but the main Government pledged another £500million in funding during the Spring Statement from Chancellor Jeremy Hunt.

The Spring Budget from Mr Hunt, the Tory Chancellor, came in March this year. The scheme will now run until September 2024.
