UK households to get £820 'cash' payments towards Cost of Living before September

UK households are braced to get £820 "cash" payments towards the Cost of Living crisis. The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) is handing out millions to local authorities and local councils amid the ongoing Cost of Living crisis amid financial strife for many.

Coventry City Council is one of the local authorities being handed cash to work with and pay out to applicants with the scheme open to applications from Tuesday April 30 until September 30 2024. Coventry City Council said: "This type of support will be paid to cover a period of 2 months in a single payment.

"This means you can apply up to a maximum of 3 times over the lifetime of the Scheme: Single people or childless couples can receive one award of £120 and families can receive £140." The local authority went on: "Please note that we can not provide support after 30 days from the end of the grant period.

"This means applications for Fuel/Energy and Water Support made at the end of September will be for the remaining weeks up to 30 October 2024." The cash can be applied for up to three times between April and September for a total of £420 maximum.

Households can claim a £25 shopping voucher, and clothing and bedding support up to a maximum of £95 per adult and £60 per child, too, with the latter capped at a £400 household maximum. All told, it means households can receive up to £820.

The council explains: "Once we receive your application, a member of our community support team may contact you to discuss your application. We will use government guidance to determine if you are eligible for support. We will then tell you the outcome of your application."

It adds: "If you are unhappy about the outcome of your application, you can request a review of the decision by contacting us within one calendar month of the decision date. You must clearly explain why you think the decision is wrong and provide any additional information that you think should be considered.

"We will look at the decision again and you will be contacted about the outcome of the review."
