UK tourists in Canary Islands urged to spend £199 'per person' as tensions rise

UK tourists have been urged to snap Canary Islands holidays that won’t break the bank this summer – with prices under £300pp. The cheapest deals we could find come from different travel companies, including TUI, loveholidays and Travel Republic, with flights taking off from Birmingham this summer.

The deals up for grabs include 4 nights self-catering at Cinco Plazas Apartments in Puerto del Carmen, Lanzarote, Spain - from £221pp and 7 nights self-catering at Servatur Montebello in Puerto Rico, Gran Canaria, Spain - from £271pp.

The packages include 7 nights at The Harbour Club in Los Gigantes, Tenerife, Spain - from £299pp, 7 nights self-catering at Castillo Beach Park Bungalows in Caleta de Fuste, Fuerteventura, Canary Islands - from £199pp and 7 nights self-catering at Neptuno Aparthotel in Costa Adeje, Tenerife, Canary Islands - from £258pp.

Others included 7 nights self-catering at Grand Muthu Golf Plaza Hotel in Golf del Sur, Tenerife, Spain - from £216pp, and 7 nights self-catering at Playa Limones Bungalows in Playa Blanca, Lanzarote, Spain - from £199pp.

It comes amid rising tension in Spain with protests erupting in the Canary Islands and Balearics too as locals take umbrage with the lack of affordable housing for residents amid an influx of tourists. Responding to the tension, one Brit typed on social media: "We are so successful compared to all the other EU countries, as it is only the British who enjoy holidays abroad, British this British that even our own newspapers have a British only problem, oh by the way close your hotels so there is nowhere to stay, simple.."

"If they’d already booked a holiday, you can’t expect them to lose their money, just to please the locals…wait while next year when the place is deserted…..," a second fumed. "They moan about British tourists but take their money, stuff them," another reasoned.

"Build holiday camps away from every one. Take them there and back to airport and prevent them from leaving. It a win win situation. You spend money we not see you," said another.
