Yahoo News UK weather: Northern areas shrouded in ‘stubborn’ fog
An area of high pressure is moving across the UK, bringing with it foggy conditions for parts of the country.
According to Clare Nasir, from the Met Office, the north of the UK will see “stubborn” fog on Thursday. This will move south into England and Wales as the day goes on although it may linger on into Friday.
A front of cold air is likely to bring frost with it overnight. Temperatures are set to drop compared to earlier in the week, with lows of -2 degrees forecast in Wales.
The fog will stick around in parts of Scotland, Northern Ireland and Yorkshire although as the day goes on it will “lift and burn off.”
Further south will see a dry and sunny autumn day with chances of cloud and scattered showers in the south east.
Temperatures will be low, with daytime highs of between 6 and 9 degrees celsius.
Thursday night and into Friday morning will bring more cold nighttime temperatures and frost for most of the country. Fog on Friday could last all day, with most of the UK experiencing low cloud cover.
The weekend too will see frost and fog in places, with denser patches found in eastern and northern England on Saturday. There will be some rain for northwestern Scotland, but elsewhere it should be a sunny weekend.
The Met Office’s Aidan McGivern said: “for most places it’s dry and settled with spells of late autumn sunshine.” Mr McGivern added that we have a “beautiful crisp weekend coming up.”
