When is Universal Credit going up? Exact dates you will see higher payments
The new rates of Universal Credit are to start coming into effect this week. DWP and HMRC benefits were increased by 6.7 per cent at the start of the new financial year, based on the inflation figure from September last year.
People on Universal Credit have had to wait longer than most to see the increase because they are paid in arrears and amounts are based on a monthly rate, rather than weekly. It means people have faced a lengthy delay and a new petition has asked if this can be changed.
Although the new increase kicked in from April 8, it takes more than a month to filter through to people's payments. Some individuals will start receiving benefits at the updated rate this week, while others will have to wait until June, as indicated in our list below. The first people to get the new amounts are those receiving their Universal Credit on Tuesday, May 14.

The payment lag has left many claimants baffled, partly because most other benefits are based on weekly rates and paid out every week, two weeks or four weeks. People receiving more than one benefit will have already seen the rise in their Child Benefit, ESA, PIP and Carer's Allowance, for instance.
