Unseen confirmation £28m transfer to Newcastle United is done after 'nice surprise'

Lewis Hall's move to Newcastle United is as good as done after the Magpies quietly slipped in the fact his transfer from Chelsea is set to be "completed this summer".

The left-back enjoyed a positive loan spell on Tyneside and made 18 appearances in total for the Magpies. A £28million switch is now set to go through after the conditions of his loan spell satisfied the set criteria from the Blues and he leaves Stamford Bridge with their good wishes.

Hall was actually included on Chelsea's retained list earlier this month sparking doubt that he will join the Magpies for some observers. But after Newcastle uploaded the 2024/25 pen pics on to their new slick website, the 19-year-old was not only included wearing the striking new Adidas home kit, the bio made for positive reading for Toon fans.

Fans taking a look at the new club website will be in for a nice surprise as his bio reads: "Hall spent 2023/24 on loan at St. James’ Park, making 22 appearances and scoring twice – both against Manchester United – and is set to complete a permanent move to Tyneside from Chelsea this summer."

The talented England youth international had broadly hinted at a permanent move himself when speaking to Chronicle Live back in April and said: "I am here now as a Newcastle player and I really enjoy it. The future looks really good for the club with so many young and talented players. It is going in the right direction."

Eddie Howe had also stated: "He’s a really talented lad. He’s got a couple of things to continue working on as all the players have. I believe in him. My vision for him is he will be at Newcastle for many years."
