Van flips onto roof after crash on Switch Island causing long delays

A van flipped onto its roof causing long delays on Switch Island.

Emergency services were called to the Netherton area at around 7.30am on Saturday, June 22. It followed a report of a crash between a van and a black car.

Pictures taken at the scene showed the van had flipped onto its roof near Broom's Cross Road. The black car had heavy damage to the front of the vehicle.

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police confirmed there were no injuries following the crash. The railings and a post were also damaged after the incident.

There were several road closures in place from Copy Lane/Dunningsbridge Road and the Switch Island junction from the M58. Merseyside Police told drivers to avoid the area and find an alternative route. The roads have since reopened.

In a separate incident, but just a few minutes away from the first, a motorhome caught fire heading towards the A59 and M58. Firefighters arrived on the scene just after 7.30am, with two fire engines in attendance.

A road closure was put in place by Merseyside Police while firefighters put out the blaze. Once extinguished, crews remained on scene to dampen down and left just after 8am.

Road closures were in place for around two hours while officers waited for recovery for the motorhome to be removed.
