Vanessa Hudgens’ The Princess Switch is getting a sequel—and a third lookalike

Vanessa Hudgens has her work cut out for her. Netflix just greenlit the sequel to the 2018 Christmas romance flick The Princess Switch, and it appears Hudgens will star as yet another lookalike main character. Confused? Excited? But more confused? We’ll do our best to explain what’s about to go down.

Although, in our opinion, the sequel should have been called The Princess Switch³, according to The Hollywood Reporter, the Netflix sequel will be named The Princess Switch: Switched Again. Hudgens will reprise her two leading roles, Stacy De Novo and Lady Margaret—and will also play a new third character, Fiona.

Switched Again picks up months, or maybe years, after the original Princess Switch ended. When the film opens, Margaret unexpectedly inherits the throne of Montenaro, and her new responsibilities hinder her relationship with Kevin. Stacy must swoop in to save both Margaret and Montenaro from turmoil before an ill-willed lookalike, Fiona, completely ruins their plans.

If you’re still confused, we really can’t help you at this point.

So, yes. Hudgens will be playing all three main roles and will most likely be acting with herself for most of the movie. It’s going to be weird, but we already know we’re going to be “ooh”-ing and “aww”-ing through the entire thing.

Christmas movies about princes, romance, and Vanessa Hudgens doppelgängers just do that to us. Sorry!

There’s no word yet whether Hudgens’ costars Sam Palladio and Nick Sagar will also reprise their roles as Edward and Kevin. However, with production set to begin in the UK next month, we’ll most likely find out soon.

The Princess Switch: Switched Again is slated to hit Netflix just in time for the 2020 holiday season. While you’re waiting for it to come out, check out Hudgens in The Knight Before Christmas, her latest Netflix Christmas romance, due out on November 21st.
