Venom 2 is happening and it might feature Spider-Man, screenwriter says

Some pretty cutting reviews didn’t stop Venom being a hit at the box office, nor did they halt plans for a sequel.

“I can’t say anything other than that it is happening,” Venom co-writer Jeff Pinkner told Discussing Film in a new interview.

With Tom Hardy at its centre as journalist Eddie Brock, the Marvel title has been one of the highest grossing films of the year, taking more than $850 million at the box office worldwide.

In spite of his insistence that he must stay silent on the sequel, Pinkner did, in fact, go on to hint at a major new character for the next instalment.

“Without revealing anything that I’m not supposed to reveal, it is not impossible a future, slash upcoming Venom movie Spider-Man will play a significant role,” he said.

“I think it’s fair to say that everyone involved would be very excited by a Spider-Man/Venom movie.”

As is the comic book movie way, the first film’s post-credits sequence left the door open for a sequel, teasing a possible war between Venom and Woody Harrelson’s Cletus Kassidy / Carnage, while establishing Riz Ahmed’s character Riz for use in subsequent movies.
