Details about the series finale remain shrouded in mystery, yet an observant fan provided some insight on a Vera fan page on Facebook. In response to an inquiry, "Are they still filming? " Another fan curtly replied, "Yes."

Separately, fans expressed hopes for the comeback of a character replaced in this year's Vera series. Amid conversations about favourite characters, one enthusiast lamented, "Jac, I would have loved to have seen more of her, I wish she would come back."

Another echoed, "Yes, I was gutted when she left."

Several fans also hold a soft spot for Aiden, who departed in last year's Christmas episode. Speculation is burgeoning around whether he might make a concluding reappearance beside DCI Stanhope.

Actress Ibinabo Jack had filled the role of DC Jacqueline 'Jac' Williams for five years before leaving to pursue theatre roles. Her exit welcomed fresh talent as Rhiannon Clements stepped into the role of eager DC Steph Duncan.

The previous year ended on a poignant note as Kenny Doughty wrapped up his final scenes as the loyal Aiden Healy.

He shared that departing from the series was difficult but felt it was the right decision.

While fans were disappointed to bid farewell to Kenny, the series welcomed back an old favourite.

Earlier this year, David Leon reprised his role as Joe Ashworth, Vera's first sidekick, in the show.

With the final series of Vera expected to air early next year, Brenda Blethyn reflected on her departure: "Working on Vera has been a joy from beginning to end and I'm sad to be saying Cheerio. But I am so proud of our achievements over the last fourteen years."

"I'll be forever grateful to the wonderful Ann Cleeves who created Vera, and to Elaine Collins who saw fit to cast me in the role."

"The Producers, dream cast, and crew have been fabulous and I'm going to miss them, but I won't forget their huge talent, the camaraderie, laughter, or kindness we shared nor the friendship of the people of the northeast, and our fans worldwide."

"Thank you from the bottom of my heart," she concluded.

Vera will return in 2025 on ITV.
